Product certification or product qualification is the method of certifying that a certain product has passed performance tests and quality assurance tests, and meets qualification criteria stipulated in contracts, regulations, or specifications (typically known as “certification schemes” within the product certification industry).
Certification refers to the confirmation of characteristics of an object, person, or organization. This confirmation is commonly, however not invariably, provided by some type of external review, education, assessment, or audit. Accreditation is a specific organization’s method of certification.
